Sruthiy Prabha is a respected Sri Lankan music director, composer, and filmmaker with over 30 years of experience across radio, music, theatre, television, and cinema.
His creative journey began at age six on the radio, where he first fell in love with music and the arts. He later trained in Hindustani music, Carnatic music, Western piano, and sound engineering. This strong training gave him a deep understanding of both how to create music and how to record it professionally.
In 1991, Prabha formed the music band "Sruthiy," performing hit South Indian movie songs across Sri Lanka. Over the years, he worked and performed with famous artists and playback singers including Malaysia Vasudevan, P. Susheela, T. M. Soundararajan, Unnikrishnan, Velmurugan, Manorama, Deepan Chakravarthy, Sirkazhi Sivachidambaram, Karthik, Vijay Yesudas, S. P. B. Charan, Venkat Prabhu, and Yugendran. These experiences helped shape his musical style and built strong ties with the South Indian film music industry.
By 1998, Prabha had composed and directed music for more than 100 light-music songs for the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC), building a reputation as a skilled and trusted music professional. He soon expanded into South Indian cinema, composing music for films including Pathani, Namma Ooru Pasakkara Pasanga, and Ondikku Ondi.
Awards & Recognition
Over his career, Prabha has won major awards and honours in Sri Lanka and India. These include a National Award for Best Music Direction in 2009, an award at the Chinnathirai Tele Awards in 2018, and National Appreciation Awards in 2019 and 2024 for his lifelong work in the arts.
Judging & Professional Appointments
Thanks to his decades of experience in music and theatre, Prabha has served as a judge for prestigious national events:
- Judging Panel Member – National Drama Festival, conducted under the Department of Cultural Affairs, Sri Lanka.
- Judging Panel Member – National Schools Drama and Music Competitions at Towerhall Foundation, helping discover and encourage young artistic talent.
- Judging Panel Member – Miss Universe Sri Lanka national pageant.
These roles reflect the deep trust placed in his creative knowledge and fair judgment across the performing arts.
Theatre, Live Performance & Music
Beyond film and radio, Prabha has created music for more than 500 live stage shows and theatre productions. His deep knowledge of different musical traditions and sound engineering helps him deliver great sound for any live performance.
Journey into Cinema
Expanding his work into film directing, Prabha directed his first feature film, Abhitha. The movie premiered at Savoy 3D Cinema and was produced by Abhitha Prakash, starring celebrated Sri Lankan actors Mahendra Perera, Paboda Sandeepani, Isuru Lokuhettiarachchi, Sriyani Amarasena, Sriyantha Mendis, Rodney Warnakula, and Ryan Van Rooyen.
His work also includes projects such as the Dream Team World Cup Song, alongside upcoming film projects, including Abitha 2025.
Prabha is also recognised for his strong connection with the South Indian film and music industry as a Sri Lankan member of the Cine Musicians Union, Tamil Nadu, India.
